The Department of Scandinavian and Finnish Studies teaches degree programmes in Northern European languages, cultures and literatures.

In the Bachelor of Arts programme, the Cologne department links the two subjects of Scandinavian Studies and Finnish Studies in a way that is unique in Germany. These offer an innovative joint Bachelor's programme in which one chooses one of the two subjects Scandinavian Studies or Finnish Studies. Additionally, a second subject is selected from the wide range of courses offered by one of the largest Faculties of Arts and Humanities in Germany.

The department also has three Master's programmes (2-subject Master's degree in "Scandinavian Cultures and Literatures", 2-subject Master's degree in "Finnish Studies" and 1-subject Master's degree in "Scandinavian Studies" in cooperation with the University of Bonn), in which the knowledge and skills acquired in the Bachelor's programme can be deepened and expanded upon. In the Master's programme, Scandinavian Studies and Finnish Studies can be studied in combination with each other, so that a comprehensive Northern European competence can be acquired.

A warm welcome!
