Enrolment and online self-assessment

Since the winter semester 2019/20, admission to the double major Bachelor’s degree Scandinavian and Finnish Studies is no longer restricted, i.e. prospective students can directly enrol for this part of the degree programme without having to go through an admission process.

Nevertheless, an application sent by the deadline is mandatory for the following enrolment (see below).  Another prerequisite for enrolment is the proof of participation in the online self-assessment for the Scandinavian and Finnish Studies Bachelor . The self-assessment contains lots of information on the degree programme and studying in general, so that it can also help for study orientation, regardless of the enrolment process.

Please note: In order to complete a double major Bachelor's degree, a second subject is mandatory, for which admission restrictions may apply. We therefore advise all prospective students to find out in advance about the admission process in the other subject as well.

How does enrolment work?

1. Application

The application is not submitted directly to the Department of Scandinavian and Finnish Studies, but centrally to the University of Cologne. First create an account in the online application portal of the University of Cologne KLIPS 2.0 (under the item ‘For all prospective students and applicants’). Although admission is no longer restricted, an application sent by the deadline for the BA Scandinavian and Finnish Studies must be made in order to be able to enrol afterwards.
Please note the deadlines for the current application/enrolment phase on the websites of the Student Application and Registration Office.

2. Online self-assessment

In order to enrol, you must prove that you have completed the online self-assessment (OSA) for the BA Scandinavian and Finnish Studies.  The OSA is intended to help with the study orientation and the choice of degree programmes. To this end, numerous information on the degree programme has been incorporated into the OSA.

At the end of the OSA, after all questions have been analysed, a certificate is generated. This certificate proves participation in the OSA and must be uploaded for enrolment in KLIPS 2.0. Here too, deadlines for enrolling at the University of Cologne must be observed.

On the online self-assessments of the Institute for Scandinavian and Finnish Studies.

In order to be able to answer the OSA,  a user account for the self-assessment portal of the University of Cologne must be registered. If you want, you can complete all other OSA previously created at the University of Cologne with this account.

First name, surname and email address are required to create an account and a certificate. For very frequent surnames, it may be useful to specify the date of birth. Please enter this data correctly; all other fields can remain blank. Applicants who are already studying at the University of Cologne can simply use their email account to register, please.

Do you have any further questions about the online self-assessment? Please email them to the office of the Institute for Scandinavian and Finnish Studies.

3. Registration

The enrolment is carried out by the Student Application and Registration Office of the University of Cologne. All important information on the application and enrolment are compiled on the websites of the Student Application and Registration Office.
