Scandinavia in Cologne

Friendship societies

The following clubs and associations are located in Cologne:

Deutsch-Isländische Gesellschaft Köln e.V.
Deutsch-Norwegische Freundschaftsgesellschaft Köln
Deutsch-Schwedische Gesellschaft Köln
German-Danish Club NRW ‘Club Danmark e.V.

All clubs offer various activities for those interested in northern Europe.

Nordic music

Nordic music in Cologne is performed by Lars Duppler, jazz pianist, and Stefan Karl Schmid, both half Icelandic. Nordic musicians are regularly engaged at the Cologne and Bonn Opera. The diverse offers of the Cologne music scene range from concerts of rather unknown underground bands in smaller locations to classical music in the Kölner Philharmonie or established artists in the Lanxess Arena. Scandinavian bands and performers regularly perform – current concert recommendations are available on the student association's website!

Scandinavian Film Days Bonn

A special feature in terms of film festivals are the Scandinavian Film Days Bonn, the younger sister of the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck. Since 2001, the festival has been held every year in April/May at the cinema of the Brotfabrik in Bonn-Beuel, organized by the students of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Bonn. Current films from Northern Europe will be shown in the original language with subtitles, and there will also be a short film evening.
